Defend National Democratic Rights
Oppose Sierra Leone Government's political intimidation.
Yesterday (Tuesday 6 March 2007), two police officers stopped a car driving members of the Africanist Movement. The police officers alleged that they received a call that the driver had failed to stop earlier at the police request.
They were held for 4 hours! The police confiscated the driving licence and charged them on two counts:
- driving without attention
- defying police officers
They were due to appear at the police magistrates court today (7 March) at 2pm (local time), which was later cancelled.
On Wednesday morning, they were at Freetown Central Police station, where they were instructed to go to the Sierra Leone Police Legal and Justice Support Department to meet the director. He was not available, but they were told to return on Thursday morning between 9am and 10 am to meet with him.
They also have to attend the police station for "certain questions".
We are calling on all freedom loving people to oppose this political harassment of the Africanist Movement by the Sierra Leone government. This is an attack on the basic democratic rights for freedom of speech, assembly and movement.
The Africanist Movement under the leadership of Chernoh Alpha M Bah has organized a genuine freedom movement to advance the national democratic rights of African people throughout West Africa. by the Sierra Leone government.
